Maria Gecheva (b. 2004, Kent, England) is a multidisciplinary artist working with various textile techniques and ceramics, exploring intergenerational care, craft, and memory. Gecheva completed her BA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London. Her work honours her Bulgarian roots and predominantly involves weaving and ceramics, incorporating the two materials together to create work that can be experienced tactilely and not through sight alone in an aim to create accessible work for both blind and sighted individuals.

Material exploration and combining unexpected mediums together is the starting point of Gecheva's work. She juxtaposes wool, bamboo, and cotton with the harshness of ceramics creating striking work that transports the audience into her world. Her practice honours her Bulgarian roots, and uses passed down textiles from family members as a way to bring her own textile creations to life, whilst still keeping the family textiles at the forefront of her work.
